Mbeme Community restoration project

We believe that communities are the champions of conservation because of their direct connection with the natural environment. Through this project, we are engaging Mbeme community in restoring the vegetation starved landscape of Mbeme sub-location.

Organic Farming

We are having tree planting and education projects involving community groups and schools around Mbeme to establish tree nurseries and wood lots that will see community members have a readily supply of tree seedlings to replenish the landscape.

Despite its geographical location along Nyamasaria/Kibos river, this community is domiciled in a landscape well characterised by degraded and over-exploited natural resources. The sand harvesting activity along the river riparian as degraded this prime ecosystem thereby exposing the lands to more erosion and exploitation. The vegetation coverage has equally dwindled as a result of intensive falling of trees for house construction.

The project seeks to restore this landscape through establishing woodlots within schools and identified public spaces within Mbeme community. Members of these communities are regularly engaged in tree planting activities in homesteads, farms and virgin lands to promote vegetation coverage and water retention. Simultaneously, the organisation enables establishment of tree nurseries within the community for a sustainable and continuous reforestation programs.
