Waste and Recycling

The organisation is currently having a small-scale campaign on waste and recycling that seeks to build capacities of youth groups in waste recycling and sensitize masses on poor waste management risks. The campaign dubbed “Know your waste” seeks to capitalise on existing avenues like community waste groups, waste canters and Kisumu county’s goodwill to address waste management through integrated systems.

The campaign is actively taking shape in the three big settlements of Kisumu that seeks to organise unemployed youths into enterprising youth groups formally registered to partake recycling initiatives. The campaign is currently focusing on plastic and paper waste but seeks to expand into other waste types.

Youths have been made to understand the potential of recycling therefore showing a keen interest in waste management conversations and programs within Kisumu. Challenges such as mobilising and organising youths cannot however be overlooked as youths desire for capacity enhancement is growing by day thus creating an enabler for tackling the ever-growing waste quantities in the county.
